Sesión organizada por la Union Europea, la Oficina del Alto Comisionado para los Derechos Humanos el Grupo de Trabajo de la ONU sobre las Empresas y Derechos Humanos, la Organización de Cooperación y Desarrollo Económico, la Organización Internacional del Trabajo La sesión será celebrada en inglés y español, con interpretación al español, portugues y ingles. Breve descripción de la sesión A lo largo de los años, el Foro Regional sobre Empresas y Derechos Humanos para América Latina y el Caribe se ha convertido en una reunión clave sobre empresas y derechos humanos para los gobiernos, las empresas y la sociedad civil por igual, y en una de las reuniones sobre derechos humanos más importantes de las Américas. Proporciona una plataforma a través de la cual una amplia gama de actores pueden intercambiar periódicamente información sobre los progresos y los problemas relativos a los marcos jurídicos e institucionales de los Estados, las políticas empresariales y las iniciativas de la industria y de múltiples interesados, en una de las regiones más dinámicas en relación con el programa de empresas y derechos humanos (más información disponible

La sesión plenaria de apertura del V Foro Regional sobre Empresas y Derechos Humanos para América Latina y el Caribe ofrecerá perspectivas de liderazgo sobre el tema principal del Foro: la realización de la conducta empresarial responsable en tiempos difíciles. Entre otros objetivos, esta sesión busca proporcionar inspiración y ayudar a establecer el tono para un diálogo constructivo y orientado a la búsqueda de soluciones durante los cuatro días del Foro Regional. La sesión plenaria de apertura presentará las perspectivas de las principales partes interesadas, así como su visión, sobre la agenda de las empresas y los derechos humanos y la conducta empresarial responsable en la región, con especial atención a los desafíos agravados por la crisis del COVID-19 y las oportunidades para reconstruir mejor.
La sesión plenaria de apertura también trata de poner de relieve las oportunidades que ofrece el Proyecto “Conducta Empresarial Responsable en América Latina y el Caribe” (
Proyecto CERALC), implementado por la Oficina del Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos (
ACNUDH), la Organización de Cooperación y Desarrollo Económicos (
OCDE) y la Organización Internacional del Trabajo (
OIT), con el apoyo de la Unión Europea (UE). El Proyecto CERALC busca promover un crecimiento inteligente, sostenible e inclusivo en la UE y en América Latina y el Caribe, mediante el apoyo a prácticas de conducta empresarial responsable, en línea con los instrumentos de las Naciones Unidas, la OIT y la OCDE. El Proyecto proporciona un marco relevante crear un entendimiento común de los desafíos y las oportunidades para prevenir y abordar los impactos negativos relacionados con las empresas sobre las personas, el planeta, y la sociedad, lo cual se ha vuelto aún más importante en el contexto de la crisis generada por la pandemia de Covid-19 (véase la

Brief DescriptionOver the years, the Regional Forum on Business and Human Rights in Latin America and the Caribbean has become a key gathering on Business and Human Rights for Governments, companies and civil society alike, and one of the most important human rights meetings in the Americas. It provides a platform through which a wide array of actors can periodically exchange information on progress and challenges regarding States’ legal and institutional frameworks, corporate policies, and industry-level and multi-stakeholder initiatives, in one of the most dynamic regions in relation to the Business and Human Rights agenda (more information is available

The Opening Plenary Session of the V Regional Forum on Business and Human Rights in Latin America and the Caribbean will provide leadership perspectives on the main theme of the Forum: Realising Responsible Business Conduct in Difficult Times. Among other objectives, it seeks to provide inspiration and help set the tone for constructive and solution-oriented dialogue over the four Regional Forum days. The Opening Plenary Session will feature a range of key stakeholder perspectives and visions for the Business and Human Rights and Responsible Business Conduct agenda in the region, with a particular focus on the challenges that have been aggravated by the COVID-19 crisis and the opportunities to build back better.
The Opening Plenary Session also seeks to highlight the opportunities offered by the Project “Responsible Business Conduct in Latin America and the Caribbean” (
RBC-LAC Project), implemented by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (
OHCHR), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (
OECD), the International Labour Organisation (
ILO), and supported by the European Union (EU). The RBC-LAC Project aims to promote smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in the EU and in Latin America and the Caribbean, by supporting responsible business conduct practices, in line with the instruments of the United Nations, the OECD and the ILO. It provides a relevant framework to build a common understanding of the challenges and opportunities to prevent and address business-related impacts on people, the planet, and society in the region, which has become even more crucial in the context of the crisis generated by the Covid-19 pandemic (see
